Description

Bobby Jones' first career major championship could hardly have been scripted better, with the legend capturing a dramatic 18-hole playoff victory that was decided on his final putt. This 8x10 original photo by Acme News Service hails from the day prior and features Gene Sarazen's blue-Sharpie "10" signature perfectly situated on the waterway for maximum visual contrast. The reverse paper caption reads, "Sensational Tie--National Open Golf. The gallery that watched Bobby Jones, during his sensational tie game with Bobby Cruickshank, in the final round of the National Open Tournament at the Inwood Golf Club (July 14th)...This picture taken at the 18th hole shows Gene Sarazen and Bobby Jones crossing the water hole and some of the gallery." Typical minor peripheral wear due to routine newsroom usage. Auction LOA from JSA.
