Posting their first-ever winning record against the mighty Yankees, the 1959 Baltimore Orioles paced the American League with 12 shutouts en route to a respectable 74-80 mark. The offered team photograph depicts those ’59 O’s in their since-razed Memorial Stadium setting. Issued by Gunther Beer (which had a sizable ad atop the center field scoreboard), the colorful piece is wood framed to 25-1/2 x 36-3/4" with light perimeter wear and shows four rows of Orioles players/personnel. Among the notable subjects are Ernie Harwell, Milt Pappas, Hoyt Wilhelm and a youthful Brooks Robinson. In addition to familiar faces in their colorful Orioles attire, telltale Charm City elements such as the majestic light towers and Waverly/Ednor gardens row houses accent the background in a scene that smacks of “Bal’mer.”
