Description

Midway through 1933, Rajah swapped leagues and teams, but stayed in St. Louis. He took the helm as player/manager of the Browns, which means he was in the dugout at Yankee Stadium for his team's loss to the Ruth-and-Gehrig-led Yanks on September 6, 1933—the date notated in a period hand on the reverse here. Indeed, Hornsby already wears the threads of his new franchise in the colorful image, and even the Goudey text is up to speed: "Making first appearance in American League as Manager of St. Louis Browns. Back in the city where he first won fame as a player with the Cardinals." Displays frontally as VG with heavy mounting wear on reverse. Signature rates "6" with a double-stroked "R". Full LOA from JSA.
