Description

Once a slugging kid playing for Columbia University in New York City, Lou Gehrig was one of the best kept secrets until he starting slamming baseballs into the right and center field stands in a Yankee tryout. After hitting four home runs in a college contest, first baseman Wally Pipp remarked that Gehrig would not be able to replicate the feat in the major leagues. Pipp must have been quite surprised when the young hitter not only did hit four dingers (in 1932) but he also took Wally’s job at first base. The offered 3x3 1938 “Who’s Who of Baseball” signed Lou Gehrig magazine cut features a beautifully potent (“8-9) black fountain penning underneath the text of a profile of “the Iron Man”. Neatly extracted from a period publication, the cut presents remarkably well given its age; comes with a full photo LOA from JSA. Note: This item has a reserve (estimated value: $2,000-$3,000).
