Rekindle childhood hero fantasies with this dapper Zorro costume. Following up on the nationwide craze surrounding the Davy Crockett mini-series starring Fess Parker, Walt Disney Productions wove its entertainment magic closer to home, spotlighting the “Old California” tales of El Zorro with a 1957-1959 TV show starring the iconic Guy Williams. During this feel-good “Happy Days” era, costume manufacturing giant Ben Cooper Inc. was cranking out hit products left and right, including best sellers of the decade Superman, Davy Crockett and the offered “Zorro Deluxe Costume #233”. Housed in its original factory box is a four-piece Zorro ensemble with plastic mask, black tunic with sparkling gold designs, matching black pants and a black cape with red fastening strap. The mask is in better condition with handsome gloss and only minor bits of paint loss, though the elastic fastening band is absent, the tunic and pants are factory fresh and appear to unused and the cape also looks to be unused, however there is a 1-1/2” tear along the seam of the red strap. Featuring a compelling image of the masked swashbuckler, the very pleasing factory box is complete and intact with only minor traces of wear including an unobtrusive 1” tear on the north end panel. Otherwise this sturdy survivor presents in excellent condition. A "C.C. Murphy Co." store price sticker is affixed to the south end panel and shows a price of $2.98. Also present is an advertising sheet touting a Disney contest that was slated to begin in January, 1960. This sheet also features an ad for Boeing 707 jets, which first went into use in 1958.
