If the Cleveland Naps had accepted Tigers manager Hughie Jennings' straight-up offer of Ty Cobb for Elmer Flick in 1907, then this could have been the most powerful triumvirate in baseball history. Instead, rivals Cobb and Lajoie notably battled for the 1910 batting crown, and Shoeless Joe soon arrived to join them in the .400 Hitters Club. As famous as this image may be, our extensive research has not turned up a single other example of an original photo or postcard. There apparently only exists fuzzy 8x10 modern reprints except for this sole surviving RPPC. The 3-1/2 x 5-1/2" postcard is a bit of an enigma because the spectacular crystal-clear quality suggests a Type I photo created from the original negative. And yet the reverse bears a postwar Kodak Paper "Place Stamp Here" box that cannot date any earlier than the 1950s. (VG) condition with general surface wear throughout.
