Coming off a trip to the World Series in 1946, the Boston Red Sox finished up Spring Training with some barnstorming. One of the stops the defending AL Champions made along the way back to Boston was in Houston, where they faced the Houston Buffaloes. This minor league squad was an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, who defeated the Red Sox in the '46 World Series.
Served up is a program from this barnstorming game. This fairly crisp program (VG-EX) is signed on the front cover by (8) members of the 1947 Red Sox team with average ("7-8") potency, unless noted. Featured signers are: Tommy McBride, "Tex" Hughson (enhanced signature), Roy Partee, Ted Williams (HOF), Rudy York (enhanced signature, d.1970), Johnny Pesky, Wally Moses, and Bobby Doerr (HOF). The game's play-by-play results are neatly recorded in pencil, with the Red Sox winners by a score of 4-2. While the Buffaloes couldn't overcome the Sox, they did go on to win the 1947 Texas League championship. Auction LOA from JSA.
